LA Times features Lens & Frame Co. - Eyewear Industry Disruptors

In a series of articles in the LA Times, David Lazarus has been uncovering the hidden stranglehold that EssilorLuxottica has held over the eyewear industry: secretly owning and controlling a vast majority of the brands, retail locations, manufacturing and vision insurance.
In today's Consumer Confidential column, Lazarus offers up some alternatives for consumers seeking high quality eyewear from independent brands disrupting the industry. And we're thrilled to have Lens & Frame Co. included as one of his recommendations:
What (Lens & Frame Co. co-founder, Darren Rosenberg) wanted to do, though, was take things up a level for people willing to pay a little more for frames and lenses manufactured to higher specifications.
“The goal,” Rosenberg explained, “was to mash up the quality of Oliver Peoples or Salt with the direct-to-consumer convenience of Warby Parker.”
I’d say he succeeded. Lens & Frame Co. offers bold, solid frames (mostly manufactured in China) and top-quality lenses (produced locally). Complete single-vision glasses start at $245, progressives at $345.
Not only is the quality high, but the company also goes for a nice personal touch. All glasses include a personal note from whoever inspected them to make sure everything’s right, and it’s easy to reach someone (likely Rosenberg himself) if there’s a problem.

With frames made of sustainable cellulose acetate - from independent brands such as Raen, Ombraz, STATE Optical, and American Optical - and lenses that are digitally-surfaced and finished by hand in Southern California, customers can select from a variety of options including anti-blue light, photochromic, polarized, and prescription computer progressive glasses. The company also offers a replacement lens service allowing customers to replace the prescription lenses in their own frames, including sunglasses.
